ALLORY ROBERTS, BORN IN 2000
ARTIST STATEMENT
“I’m not great with words, but I am good at communicating through my art. I can be clear and direct. My statue “The Big Beautiful Slap” is polarizing, but self-explanatory, and that’s the point. I do not care whether you like the statue; I want you to acknowledge the reaction it has caused in you and understand my message. Up until now, I’ve been focused on understanding the core principles of each discipline I’ve fixated on. Going forward, I want to explore how to encourage introspection, and maybe even radical acceptance once I have a grasp on that myself.”
-Quoted from Allory Roberts, who is an interdisciplinary artist born and based in West Michigan. She describes her creative process as “I occasionally channel a vision, and then the compulsion to bring it to life consumes me”. Her work is intuitive, genuine, and evocative. She is currently focused on making functional pottery to develop the skills for pursuing her more sculptural aspirations with clay. Across her many artistic pursuits, one thing that remains consistent is the ideology of failing forward and the cross-pollination of experience.
